Our Facilities

Space is more than just a backdrop for learning; it’s an active part of the educational experience. In the Reggio Emilia philosophy, the environment is known as “the third teacher” for its power to engage, inspire, and guide children—much like a living educator.

The Nest @ Zimmer

Thoughtfully designed for our youngest learners, children 4 months to 24 months, “The Nest” @ Zimmer offers infants and toddlers a warm and inviting space where they can master their early milestones.

Our Infant room is complete with soft flooring, care-time areas, and play spaces designed for our floor babies, crawlers, and early walkers.

The Indoor Space

Our indoor environment is warm, light-filled, and homey. With a strong focus on nature, we incorporate abundant natural materials and sensorial elements—varied textures, hidden nooks, and quiet corners that gently encourage the children to explore.

Classrooms are arranged in learning centers which invite children to make choices, solve problems, and engage in discovery and cooperation. Materials are carefully selected and evolve with the children’s interests.

The overall design is calm, organized, and free of clutter, allowing children to confidently take ownership of their space. Together, these environments nurture both academic growth and the development of the whole child.

Throughout the building—the classrooms, the playroom, even the hallways—the message is clear: You are loved here. Come, learn, and grow.

The Outdoor Space

Our children spend quality time outdoors nearly every day—rain, snow, or shine. Time spent outside offers fresh air, large muscle exercise, and fosters the child’s innate connection to the natural world.

Our Outdoor Classroom mirrors the richness of indoor learning, offering centers for art, science, storytelling, and hands-on exploration. Children mix mud, dig in the sandbox, paint with natural materials, and experiment with water—all while exercising their gross motor skills by biking, running, and climbing.

In the Garden, children plant, water, harvest, and compost. These tasks nurture a sense of care, patience, and responsibility, while giving them a tangible experience of growth and renewal.

Zimmer sits on 7.5 acres that back onto the Passaic River. Frequent walks through the woods invite children to observe seasonal changes, listen to birdsong, study insects, and explore the river’s edge. These quiet adventures give us opportunities to observe the interconnectedness of all living things.
